My brother, gifted with a high IQ, lacked practical skills & the combination of post WWII price controls and an insufficient amount of ration stamps to purchase tires for the Ford raised the issue as to 'where did he fit' in the scheme of things? Being practical Methodists, our parents decided to utilize him on Sundays for transporation to church allowing the horses to lounge around the barn munching oats. This 'special training' left scars in my psyche as I viewed it a bit of a circus atmosphere leading to me occasionally refusing to attend church. I am convinced this episode placed me onto the path of becoming a loner and a commodity futures trader.
Thankfully, my father was soon able to negotiate the purchase of a 1947 Fleetwood Chevrolet with the "black market" provision he also purchase an IH deep freeze and an IH 4-row corn planter.
This lack of opportunity for me to learn Rickshaw skills did convince me my brother was viewed as the family favorite.
